Award Winners

Achievements of individuals and teams are recognised at prize givings held after each season. Outstanding successes are rewarded with a merit award and their names are inscribed onto a Merit Board on the clubroom wall.

Some of our runners hold longstanding records in local relays or have won local, national or international honors as individuals, or part of teams. Competition inside the club is strong and is well shown by club records for the Akaroa Relay.

In late 2014 the following achieved merit:

Sean EustaceCameron Avery and Matt Prest – Selection to the Australian Secondary Schools Cross Country Champs at Albany, Perth.

Sean EustaceCameron AveryMatt PrestDaniel CoatsTannock Blair and Ieuan Van der Peet – Won the Junior Mens Takahe to Akaroa relay.

On August 19th 2014 the following names were added to the merit board:

Margot Gibson – Won the World Secondary Schools Cross Country title in 2012; won the 2013 U20 South Island and NZ Cross Country titles; won the 2013 Junior Women’s Canterbury Road Championship title.

Matthew Dryden – Won the NZ Junior Men’s 10,000 m title in 2014.

Courtney Ruske – Won the NZ Senior Women’s 3km and 20 km track walk titles; won the 2013 NZ and Canterbury Junior Women’s Road Champs and broke the JW 3000m record.

Andrew Reese-Jones – Won the Canterbury Senior Mens Marathon title in 2013.

Sarah Douglas (nee Coghlan) – Won the 2014 Senior Women’s NZ Mountain Running title.

Mark Bailey – Won the 2001 Senior Men’s Canterbury 5000m track title.

2001 CH-CH Avon Children’s Summer Interclub Team – Won all four trophies.

John Gamblin, Paul Norton, Martin Cole – Won the 2001 NZ Marathon Team Championship.

John Gamblin – Won the 2010 NZ Senior Men’s 3000 m Steeple-chase title.

Sean Eustace – For selection to the NZ Secondary Schools Cross Country team and a member of the gold medal winning team in the Australian Secondary Schools’ Cross Country Champs.

Cameron Avery – For selection to the NZ Secondary Schools Cross Country team and a member of the gold medal winning team in the Australian Secondary Schools’ Cross Country Champs.
